Hire a WhatsApp Business API developer for automation that doesn't drop messages
I've built on the Meta WhatsApp Business API for clients at Shivohini TechAI (webhook ingestion, message routing and template management behind AI agents) and at Zuneko Labs, where I built a document ingestion system that pulls media from WhatsApp group chats into Google Drive, with a recovery job for anything missed during downtime.
Problems I solve with this stack
The same message is processed twice and customers get two replies.
Idempotent webhook handling: store the message ID under a unique constraint before doing any work, so provider retries become no-ops.
Replies time out because the AI runs inside the webhook.
Acknowledge fast, then move AI inference and database writes to Celery workers with Redis, the way I built the client agents at Shivohini TechAI.
Files shared during an outage never arrive.
A recovery job that backfills missed media after downtime or network failures, as in the WhatsApp-to-Google-Drive ingestion system I built at Zuneko Labs.
A user sends several messages in a row and the replies come out confused.
Keep per-user conversation state in PostgreSQL and process each user's messages in order, so a reply takes the whole exchange into account instead of only the last webhook.
What you get
- A webhook receiver for the WhatsApp Business API with verification and idempotent processing.
- Message routing by type and user state, plus template management.
- Async AI replies through Celery + Redis.
- Media pipelines to Google Drive or your own storage, with backfill after downtime.
- Logs and a runbook for when messages go missing.
How a WhatsApp Business API engagement runs
1. Set up the Meta side
Business account, phone number, webhook verification and the message templates you will need, so the integration has something to receive and send.
2. Build the receiver
Verify the request, store the message ID under a unique constraint, acknowledge quickly and queue the work.
3. Add routing and replies
Route by message type and user state, and run AI replies or media downloads in Celery workers instead of inside the webhook.
4. Test the failure paths
Duplicate deliveries, worker restarts and downtime. Confirm the recovery job backfills what was missed, then hand over a runbook.
Frequently asked questions
Can you connect WhatsApp to our AI assistant?
Yes. Messages arrive by webhook, the AI reply runs in a background worker, and the answer goes back through the API, with conversation history and user state stored in PostgreSQL.
Can files shared on WhatsApp be saved to Google Drive automatically?
Yes. I built exactly that at Zuneko Labs: media shared in WhatsApp chats is downloaded through the API and uploaded to Google Drive, with a recovery job that backfills files missed during downtime.
Why do we need message templates?
WhatsApp only allows free-form replies inside the customer-service window that opens when a user messages you; outside it, businesses must use pre-approved templates. Template setup and management are part of the integration.
What happens to messages if our server is down?
Meta retries webhook delivery for a limited time, not forever, so a recovery job that backfills what was missed matters. I built exactly that for the WhatsApp document ingestion at Zuneko Labs.
Can the bot message a customer first?
Only with a pre-approved template when the customer-service window is closed. Inside the window you can reply freely. Template setup and approval are part of the integration.
Do you work with international clients?
Yes. I'm based in Pune, India, and work with teams in India and remotely worldwide. Communication is async-first with scheduled calls when needed.
What does an engagement look like?
A short call to scope the problem, a written scope (what will be built, what won't, and how we'll know it works), then small milestones you can review, with the code in your repository from day one.
